In the rapidly expanding field of animal health, the demand for specialized training and refresher training is increasing. It is recognized that basic veterinary training can at best provide the foundation for the diverse demands that animal health professionals will face in the course of their careers, and that continuing education is the cornerstone of effective provision of veterinary services. In particular, transboundary animal diseases and the requirements for their control at national and international level, is a rapidly evolving field especially in so far as their impacts on trade, human health and environment are concerned. These are comparatively neglected areas in veterinary courses designed to produce clinicians whose main competency is to provide treatment for sick animals. Additionally, it is becoming increasingly clear that effective disease control will only be possible through farmer participation, and this requires training in disease control and prevention aimed at farmers and agricultural extension officer participation. Our own expertise, complemented through partnerships with relevant service providers, means we are able to offer training in this specific as well as other general areas of animal health that comply with international requirements.
