Severe difficulties are experienced by many developing countries in accessing export markets for animals and animal commodities, particularly those in sub-Saharan Africa, where the persistence of many of the most feared transboundary animal diseases has resulted in the imposition of non-tariff trade barriers. In reality, a wide range of animal commodities exists that pose minimal risk for the transmission of diseases and this opportunity is ripe for exploitation in sub-Saharan Africa. We can offer assistance in risk identification, quantification and management of animal and zoonotic pathogens to increase market access for livestock and animal products. Credible certification of animals and animal commodities for export often pose problems as well. We can offer assistance to countries and organizations, including commercial companies, in identifying trade requirements and development of strategies to overcome difficulties. This is enabled by the long association of the Directors of TADS with international organizations involved in trade in livestock commodities. [more]
